Israeli airstrikes targeted Syria’s capital Damascus early Wednesday morning, wounding two Syrian soldiers, Syrian media has reported.
“At about 12:25 am, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with bursts of missiles from the direction of the north of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus,” a military source told SANA, Syria’s state news agency.
“Our air defenses intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down most of them,” the source said, adding that besides the two injured soldiers, some material damage was reported.
Israel has not yet commented on the bombing but rarely acknowledges individual airstrikes in Syria. Israeli officials frame their operations in Syria as attacks against Iran and Hezbollah, but they frequently kill or injure Syrians.
The incident marks at least the 20th Israeli bombing of Syria this year. In May, Israeli Defense Yoav Gallant said that the Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled airstrikes in Syria since it came to power at the end of December 2022.
